Redesigning for Disassembly and Carbon Footprint Reduction: Shifting from Reinforced Concrete to Hybrid Timber–Steel Multi-Story Building

چکیده
To reduce carbon emissions, holistic approaches to design, plan, and build our environment are needed. Regarding multi-story residential buildings, it is well-known that (1) material choices construction typologies play a fundamental role in the reduction of footprint, (2) shifting from concrete timber will significantly (3) building designed be disassembled increase potential achieving zero-carbon emissions. However, little has been said about consequences such shifts decisions terms architecture structural especially seismic-prone regions. In this study, an existing 9-story reinforced (RC) redesigned with cross-laminated floors glue-laminated frames for embodied purposes. Firstly, reasons behind design addressed both structure, including incorporation specially steel concentrically braced seismic-resistance. Then, outcomes life cycle assessments pushover analyses show RC emits two times more than hybrid steel-timber building, while building’s lateral load-capacity less its deformation capacity higher. These results highlight relevance considering footprint combination decisions, which seems key introducing circular projects areas.

Wave propagation in a seven-story reinforced concrete building: III. Damage detection via changes in wavenumbers
This paper presents low frequency wavenumbers in a seven-storey reinforced concrete building estimated from its recorded response to eleven earthquakes, one of which (1994 Northridge) caused visible structural damage, and two of which are its aftershocks. The wavenumbers, Ki;jðf Þ; are estimated from pairs ði; jÞ of records at neighboring recording sites in the building, distributed vertically ...
متن کاملDuctility Performance of Hybrid Fibre Reinforced Concrete
This study presents a study on the ductility performance of hybrid fibre reinforced concrete. The influence of fibre content on the ductility performance of hybrid fibre reinforced concrete specimens having different fibre volume fractions was investigated. The parameters of investigation included modulus of rupture, ultimate load, service load, ultimate and service load deflection, crack width...
متن کاملHybrid Fiber Reinforced Concrete Containing Pumice and Metakaolin
Fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) has been widely used due to its advantages over plain concrete such as high energy absorption, post cracking behaviour, flexural and impact strength and arresting shrinkage cracks. But there is a weak zone between fibers and paste in fiber reinforced concretes and this weak zone is full of porosity, especially in hybrid fiber reinforced concretes. So it is necess...
متن کاملMulti-objective Optimization of Reinforced Concrete Frames
1. Abstract This paper presents a discrete optimization of reinforced concrete structures based on an efficient combination of deterministic and stochastic optimization strategies. The deterministic optimization algorithm is used for the detailing of a reinforced concrete crosssection for a given combination of internal forces. The multi-objective stochastic optimization algorithm is then appli...
